Port Tampa Bay was granted $1.7 million for three security projects through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA’s) Seaport Security Grant Program, the port said Friday.

The grant, which requires a 25 percent match from the port, will fund a new public safety complex on Hooker’s Point; a new port security boat and ramp, to be a shared asset between the port authority and the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, as well as other related pier and waterside improvements; and a new tower for security equipment, which will be more than 100 feet tall when completed.
