Frontier Airlines to start route between Tampa to Washington Dulles

— Frontier Airlines will begin offering non-stop low-fare flights from Tampa International Airport to Washington Dulles International Airport beginning Aug. 21.

Beginning Wednesday, visitors to flyfrontier.com can purchase seats for $59 each way through May 15 to fly to and from Washington Dulles. Seat availability at that price is also limited. Once the promotion ends, the price will vary slightly, Frontier Spokeswoman Kate O’Malley said. She did not have a specific ticket price to announce.

Frontier flights from Tampa to Washington Dulles will be offered four times a week - Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday — once a day. The airline will offer the service on a 168-seat Airbus 320 for the 2-hour- 20-minute flight.

“We chose Tampa because it’s a great opportunity for people flying out of Dulles because Tampa is very popular and a good vacation destination,” O’Malley said. “It’s also great on the receiving end because people in Tampa will be able to reach the nation’s capital using these low-fare flights.”

“We offer low-based prices and customers choose what they want and pay for what they will use,” O’Malley said. Customers can fly using Frontier’s Classic Plus or Economy. Classic Plus is a refundable fare that includes a carry-on bag, one checked bag, and wide seating. With the Economy fares, customers pay to select a seat, to carry on a bag and to check a bag. “It’s a complete unbundled fare,” O’Malley said.

“We expect this to be a popular route,” for the local traveling public, said Tampa International Airport spokeswoman Emily Nipps. “It’s us and 13 other cities and some are brand new markets for Frontier. We already have a relationship with them. They have had success here with other routes, so they are adding this one.”

Frontier already flies from Tampa to Wilmington, Delaware, Trenton, New Jersey, Denver and Cleveland. “We currently offer service from Denver to Washington National, but this will be the first time Frontier has flown to Dulles,” O’Malley said.
