TAMPA — Tampa Electric Co. is appealing a recent citation by federal regulators. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration hit the utility with a $76,050 fine and a "serious" violation in April following its investigation into an accident in October 2017.
Two workers were injured at Tampa Electric’s Big Bend Power Station because of modifications the utility made to cooling system equipment. Both workers, who were contractors, are suing the utility.
Utilities have 15 days to object to an investigation’s findings.
Separately, Tampa Electric is also contesting OSHA’s "willful" violation designation for an investigation into a June 2017 accident at Big Bend that killed five workers. The utility filed that appeal in February.
