Carrollwood fitness center employs scientific protocol to help clients

In 2005, Al Roach and Virginia Phillips, husband and wife, opened 20 Minutes to Fitness in Lakewood Ranch, and last month they opened the doors to their new location in Carrollwood.

20 Minutes to Fitness is a unique, strength training studio that uses a scientifically based fitness approach.

"It's slow cadence," Phillips said. "It's making a light weight feel heavy, but it's using the correct equipment, which is what we do, and it's using a protocol that takes your muscles to peak performance or fatigue."

A personal fitness coach leads clients through a 20 minute workout, once a week, on specialized equipment.

"Our equipment is physical therapy equipment," Phillips said. "We're not a gym."

The fitness coach correctly calibrates the equipment and then properly positions each client in the equipment throughout the workout.

The slow cadence training provides a full body workout which burns calories, promotes cardiovascular fitness, builds muscle, increases bone density, and reduces the risk of exercise-related injuries.

20 Minutes to Fitness is safe and effective for ages 18 to 80, and for those with limitations or medical conditions.

"It fits into everyone's lifestyle," Phillips said.

A free orientation is offered which includes an in-depth health analysis to determine goals and a training session with a personal fitness coach.
