Apple is offering users of the iPhone, iPad and iPod a new USB charger for $10, about half the regular price, if they trade in their third-party brand charger.
The offer is limited to one new charger per device and is valid from Aug. 16 to Oct. 18 at an Apple store or participating authorized service provider.
Apple said it will ensure the adapters are disposed of properly.
The offer follows reports of the electrocution death of a Chinese flight attendant last month who died when she answered her iPhone while it was charging. Reports were unclear whether the charger in that case was from Apple or a third-party manufacturer.
