The bulk of positions will involve picking and packing smaller items for shipping such as books and DVDs. A similar Amazon distribution site in Lakeland will focus on relatively fewer, but larger items such as furniture and big-screen TVs.
Amazon eventually plans on employing upward of 1,000 people at the Ruskin site. The company says that in addition to competitive wages, employees are eligible for benefits that include health insurance, 401(k) with 50 percent match, bonuses and company stock awards.
Amazon also offers full-time employees programs such as Career Choice, where the company will pre-pay up to 95 percent of tuition for courses related to in-demand fields, regardless of whether the skills are relevant to a career at Amazon.
