Valley National launches ‘Pop-Up Moments’ campaign for Tampa Bay nonprofits

Leaders from Valley National Bank/USAmeriBank surprised the students of two local schools, Ybor City’s Academy Prep, 1407 E Columbus Drive, and St. Peter Claver Catholic School, 1401 N Governor St., with donations of much-needed supplies. This happened during their newly announced Pop-Up Moments at the schools on Jan. 11.

Valley National Bank recently acquired Clearwater-based USAmeriBank and is continuing its support of the local community. The Pop-Up Moments will take place throughout the coming months, where bank team members will randomly surprise community groups and individuals that make a positive impact in the community, as a way to say "thank you" for all they do.

The bank asked the two schools to share their most immediate needs, which led to the bank donating four patio tables and two tournament-level chess sets to Ybor City’s Academy Prep, a rigorous private middle school for students qualifying for needs-based scholarships.

The school has an outdoor area where students participate in classes and extracurricular activities. More quality outdoor tables will increase the school’s ability to hold activities outside. Meanwhile, the chess sets were needed for Academy Prep’s chess team, which has consistently placed in state and national scholastic chess competitions.

The bank then surprised Kim Rice-Spencer’s third-grade classroom at Tampa’s St. Peter Claver Catholic School, which serves many students from economically-disadvantaged backgrounds. The school announced Valley National Bank is going to provide every classroom at the school with new whiteboards, replacing old boards that were difficult for students to read.
