ANDERSON, S.C. — A U.S. senator from Florida pondering a GOP presidential bid says he sympathizes with hecklers demanding immigration reform during his address at a South Carolina Republican fundraiser.
Over multiple interruptions, Marco Rubio said Monday that United States is the most welcoming country in the world to people of other nations.
Rubio was the keynote speaker at U.S. Rep. Jeff Duncan’s fourth annual “Faith and Freedom BBQ” fundraiser in Anderson. He has been trying to recover from his failed push for an immigration overhaul.
Rubio says he has not decided whether to seek the Republican presidential nomination in 2016. Last year, another potential GOP presidential hopeful, U.S. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, spoke at Duncan’s fundraiser.
