Two Pasco men have been charged with murder in the shooting death of a Wesley Chapel man.
Joseph James Berenguer, 27, and Matthew Brian Tillman, 25, both of 6300 Tulip Drive, Wesley Chapel, are charged with first-degree murder.
The pair were arrested Monday night at their home in connection to the Oct. 9 shooting of Timothy Leigh Skowronski, 31. Skowronski died two days later at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa.
Authorities provided no motive for the attempted robbery and shooting.
Berenguer and Tillman drove to 30122 Eastport Drive with the intent of robbing the home, according to the Pasco Sheriff’s Office. Tillman knocked on a rear door about 9:20 p.m. and said his name was Nick.
When Skowronski opened the door, Tillman aimed a handgun at Skowronski, the arrest report said. Skowronski grabbed the gun, but was shot in the head, the report said.
Skowronski was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital and placed on life support. He died on Oct. 11.
Berenguer told deputies he and Tillman went to the home to rob the residence and he saw Tillman shoot Skowronski, the arrest report said. The pair ran from the house, which was occupied by four people at the time of the shooting, and sped away in Berenguer’s red, 2007 Toyota Camry.
