Tampa home invasion suspect injured in struggle with victims
The suspect in an overnight North Tampa home invasion is in critical condition from injuries sustained during a struggle with the victims. Tampa police say the suspect, 26-year-old Nartavleon Devon Evans, entered the house around midnight after Jheryl Jeffery Dennis, 26, answered a knock at his front door at 10108 N. 10th St. Police say Evans forced Dennis at gunpoint to a back bedroom where Dennis' roommate, 47-year-old Clifford Gray, was sleeping. As Evans was forcing Gray to the floor, police say Dennis grabbed Evans and a struggle ensued.Gray was able to gain control of the gun, along with a machete that was in the room, and police say several shots were fired. During the struggle, police say Evans was shot and suffered several deep lacerations, and Dennis was accidentally struck above his left knee with the machete. Dennis suffered minor injuries, while Evans is in critical condition at Tampa General Hospital, police say. An investigation is ongoing.
