Hillsborough County firefighters are investigating an overnight fire at a Sulphur Springs duplex that occurred across the street from where a homicide took place early Thursday.
Crews dispatched to the fire at 8109 N. Semmes St. around 3:30 a.m. found heavy smoke and fire coming from one of the units.
The fire at the unoccupied house was extinguished in less than an hour, and no injuries were reported, officials say.
Early Thursday morning, police say 35-year-old Keith J. Jones was standing outside his friend’s house at 8108 N. Semmes St. around 3:30 a.m. when he became involved with another man from the neighborhood.
Police say the suspect pulled a gun and shot Jones.
Detectives are following leads, but are seeking the public’s help in locating the suspect.
Investigators say it is uncertain whether the homicide and fire are related, but the investigation continues.
