Riverview man charged in hit-and-run with pedestrian
A Riverview man has been arrested in a hit-and-run crash that caused serious injuries to a pedestrian, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said. At approximately 1:30 this morning, Matthew Ryan Fox, 26, was arrested at his home at 9757 Tranquility Lake Circle where deputies located the gray Toyota Corolla they say Fox was driving when he hit 33-year-old Diana Pena, of Riverview. Pena was the passenger in a vehicle on Boyette Road when the vehicle ran out of gas Thursday at around 1:30 a.m. Pena left the vehicle and began to cross Boyette Road to go to a gas station, when she was struck by the Corolla, deputies said. A passerby saw Pena laying in the road and called 9-1-1.Pena was transported by air to Tampa General Hospital in serious condition. Her condition was later upgraded to stable. Investigators found vehicle debris at the scene and determined it was from a Toyota Corolla. The sheriff's office said that when deputies found the Corolla in front of Fox's home, the front of the car was covered with a sheet to hide damage from the crash. Fox was charged with leaving the scene of a crash with injury.
