Restaurant employee leaves work to burglarize truck, Dade police say

A restaurant’s employee was arrested Saturday night after breaking into a truck parked behind the business and stealing a shotgun and other items, according to the Dade City Police Department.

Michael Andrew McDaniel, 39209 Lizabeth Cir., Zephyrhills, is charged with armed burglary of an automobile and grand theft with a firearm.

Just before 10 p.m., the victim parked his truck behind Beef O’Brady’s, on 7th Street in Dade City. A short time later, he was told the truck was broken into and witnessed by McDaniel, police said.

The investigation revealed McDaniel left Beef’s and broke into the victim’s truck, stealing a Winchester 1300 12 gauge shotgun, pioneer stereo, a camouflaged bag and shotgun ammunition, police said.

McDaniel then placed the items inside the trunk of his car, the arrest report said. The property was recovered.

McDaniel, who blamed a fictitious male for the theft, remains in the Land O’ Lakes Jail.

This is McDaniel’s second arrest in less than three months. He was arrested at the end of July and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell, manufacture or deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia.
