LAND O’ LAKES — A Land O’ Lakes Jail inmate who had expressed unhappiness about his living quarters doused a jail computer with water in hopes his actions would get him moved to another housing pod, the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The $1,256 computer, which was at a deputy’s work station, was left inoperable and the inmate, Jesse Alonso, 21, of 17503 Thomas Blvd., Hudson, was charged with criminal mischief Tuesday night.
Alonso had been in the jail since Aug. 13 on charges of domestic battery, grand theft of a motor vehicle and obstructing an officer without violence, records said.
With the additional charge, an extra $5,000 was added to Alonso’s previous bail amount of $5,650.
Although the incident with the computer happened Aug. 26, the criminal mischief charge against Alonso wasn’t filed until this week, an arrest report said.
Alonso had been creating disturbances that day and, after an initial denial, admitted to pouring water on the computer after a deputy briefly stepped away from the desk and it was out of his sight, the report said.
The report did not say why Alonso wanted to move to another housing pod at the jail.
