A teacher at Turkey Creek Middle School in Plant City was arrested Friday on charges that she had sex while at the school with one of her students, authorities said.
Megan Connors, 30, had sex “multiple times’’ with the 15-year-old boy, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
Connors, of 947 Wicketrun Drive in Brandon, faces seven counts of sexual battery, along with a charge of lewd and lascivious battery and lewd conduct. She was arrested at her home Friday night and booked into the Orient Road Jail with no bond.
The sheriff’s office said the relationship between Connors and the teen began in January, then quickly progressed to kissing and Connors allowing the boy to fondle her. Eventually, they began having sex at school during school hours, the sheriff’s office said.
Investigators said Connors would have the boy removed from other classes and the two would meet for sex in a room selected by Connors.
Once, the sheriff’s office said, Connors and the boy left the school in her vehicle, then went to his house and had sex in his bedroom.
The sheriff’s office said there has been no indication that other students were involved but that the investigation is still ongoing.
School district spokesman Stephen Hegarty said Connors had begun teaching at Turkey Creek Middle in August. He said the school district pulled her from the classroom about a week ago after school officials began to suspect there might be inappropriate conduct.
The school district will ask Connors to resign or will fire her, Hegarty said. Because she is a new teacher in the district, that action will not require the approval of the school board, he said.
The district also will report her actions to the state, and she could face the loss of her teaching certificate, Hegarty said.
