Interstate 75 closed near Ruskin brush fire
Interstate 75 in south Hillsborough County has reopened after being closed several hours due to smoke from a brush fire in Ruskin, Hillsborough sheriff’s deputies said. The fire is contained, but not fully under control, Hillsborough County Fire Rescue said Firefighters are battling the fire which spread close to the shoulder of I-75 and has affected several structures near S.E. 27th Street and 22nd Avenue. The first call was received about noon. Originally, five acres were affected, but due to dry conditions and winds it spread quickly to more than 30 acres, fire officials said.An empty mobile home, a carnival trailer and a few vehicles were destroyed by the fire, fire officials said. There are no reports of injuries. Both directions of traffic were closed at first; the southbound lanes reopened about 3 p.m., and the northbound lanes reopened about 6 p.m. Stay with TBO.com for updates.
