Holiday affects bus schedules, traffic patterns
TAMPA - HART and PSTA bus lines will operate on the Memorial Day holiday Monday using Sunday schedules. Motorists will find no planned lane closures or detours on the interstate system in Hernando, Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas counties this weekend through Monday with one exception: an early Saturday morning traffic shift on northbound Interstate 275 near Lois Avenue. Next week, one lane will be closed on both northbound and southbound I-275 near the crest of the Sunshine Skyway from 7:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday through Saturday. AAA Travel predicts 34.8 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more from home during the Memorial Day weekend, a 0.9 percent decrease from the 35.1 million people who traveled last year.On Sunday, the Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority will implement previously announced changes on four routes that will remain in effect on current schedules. Those routes are: Route 2, between the Marion Transit and University Area Transit Centers; Route 16, between the Yukon and Northwest Transit Centers; Route 34, between the Northwest and [email protected] Transit Centers; and the 200X commuter express route between downtown Tampa and Clearwater. On Tuesday, HART will launch its MetroRapid service that will run every 15 minutes between the northeast suburbs and downtown along Nebraska and Fletcher avenues from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays. That route will parallel much of Route 2, but it will make fewer stops. Passengers can transfer between MetroRapid and Route 2 buses by walking between the MetroRapid stations and nearby Route 2 stops.
