A Hillsborough County Fire Rescue firefighter died while on duty over the weekend from hypertensive heart disease, the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner’s Office said on Monday.
Iran D. Rivers, 48, died Sunday morning while on duty at Fire Station 6, in the western part of Hillsborough County.
Rivers worked as a firefighter with Fire Rescue for 24 years. He worked at Fire State 6 since 1993.
“He was an intricate part of that station because he had been there so long,” said Nacole Revette, a fire rescue spokeswoman.
He is survived by his mother, Janelle Rivers, his older brother and an uncle.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Grace Family Church, 5101 Van Dyke Road.
