A Hillsborough County deputy sustained minor injuries early Sunday morning after he was struck in a hit-and-run crash in Brandon. Deputies say Cpl. Harrison Bashner, 40, was traveling southbound on I-75 in the center, left lane, near the Progress Boulevard overpass around 2:10 a.m. when he noticed headlights approaching at a high rate of speed. Before he was unable to switch lanes, deputies say the unidentified car struck the rear of Bashner's police cruiser, causing him to spin out of control before coming to rest on the west shoulder, facing north. The vehicle fled southbound on I-75, deputies say.
Bashner was treated at a local hospital and released. Anyone with any information is asked to call the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office at 247-8200.
