A group of vagrants destroyed an unoccupied Seminole Heights house early this morning when they started a fire that went out of control, according to fire officials.
After an investigation, the fire at 6610 N. Taliaferro Ave. was caused by “inadequate control of an open flame.”
Officials say the fire was set in the front room and spread after it ignited combustibles in the room, which sustained heavy damage and caused a partial collapse of the house as firefighters — who arrived at 4:30 a.m. — were battling the blaze.
No injuries were reported, and officials say the fire was extinguished in about 30 minutes.
City officials ordered the single-story wooden house be demolished.
