Fight at Wharton High led to lockdown; one student arrested
TAMPA - Wharton High School was on lockdown after multiple fights at the school located in northeastern Hillsborough County. At least one person was arrested, said Stephen Hegarty, spokesman with the school district. The fights broke out during class change times, said Debbie Carter, spokeswoman with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. There has been an ongoing neighborhood dispute over a girl, Carter said. Today, it spilled into the school. The lone arrest was not related to the fight, but involved a student who had been suspended and should not have been on campus, the sheriff’s office spokeswoman said. There were no injuries, and the fights were mostly handled by school administration, Carter said. Wharton is located at 20150 Bruce B. Downs Blvd. No other information was available.
