Deputies arrest Pasco bank robbery suspect

A man wanted for Tuesday’s bank robbery in New Port Richey was arrested Wednesday night less than 4 miles away from the scene, according to the Pasco Sheriff’s Office.

Thomas John Nelson, 33, was arrested near the intersection of 7 Springs Boulevard and Perrine Ranch Road at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Nelson, whose occupation is described as a web designer, is homeless and has lived in Sarasota.

About 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nelson entered Bank of America, 2918 Little Road, and passed a note to the teller demanding money as he talked on a cell phone, according to deputies.

Once the teller placed cash on the counter, Nelson grabbed it, placed it in a blue bag and left, according to an arrest report.

During the robbery, Nelson, also known as TJ, wore Ray Ban sunglasses, a blue, long-sleeve shirt with Eastern NYC on the front and blue jeans, deputies said.

A tip was received Wednesday identifying Nelson, an arrest report said. Two people that know him also identified Nelson after looking at the surveillance footage.

Nelson remains in the Land O’ Lakes Jail and is charged with robbery without a firearm or weapon. Bond is $10,000.
