PLANT CITY — A retired police captain will serve as acting police chief during Steve Singletary’s suspension.
City Manager Greg Horwedel said John Borders, who retired about 18 months ago from the Plant City Police Department, had an outstanding and lengthy career.
“He provides a wealth of operations experience and we are fortunate to have his help,” Horwedel wrote in a memorandum to city commissioners.
Since his retirement, Borders has worked for the city code enforcement department.
Singletary was suspended indefinitely with pay last week while officials looked into allegations against him. The nature of the complaints has not been publicly disclosed.
Singletary, a 16-year veteran, has been police chief since April.
