Four people were rescued near Clearwater Pass after their 23-foot boat capsized early Sunday, according to the Coast Guard.
At 9:48 a.m., a person on the boat made a call to the Coast Guard’s St. Petersburg unit. The vessel was 8 miles west of Clearwater Pass when the accident took place, the Coast Guard said.
The caller used a VHF-FM radio and was heard yelling, “Mayday” several times.
A 45-foot boat was launched from Sand Key and rescued the four boaters, who were each wearing life vests. No injuries were reported, according to the Coast Guard.
“Using Rescue 21’s fixed position, we were able to pinpoint their location of distress,” Petty Officer 1st Class Ronnie Leavell, a search and rescue coordinator at the sector, said in a press release.
