Sarah Palin, the former governor of Alaska and 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate, has endorsed Lizbeth Benacquisto in congressional District 19 special election.
In a message on her Facebook page Wednesday, Palin called Benacquiso “a proven conservative with an unwavering commitment to the principles of our Founders and to the sanctity of life.”
“Lizbeth is running against a wealthy self-funded candidate with lots of splashy campaign ads claiming to be a conservative. Since when do conservatives stand for crony capitalism and government bailouts? Please do your homework, voters,” Palin said in the statement. “Look beyond the fancy anonymous campaign ads. Look at a candidate’s record, not just their rhetoric. Lizbeth is a genuine conservative with a track record to prove it.”
In a statement Wednesday, Benacquisto, a Fort Myers Republican, called Palin’s endorsement an honor.
“On the national stage, there is no greater voice for principled conservatism and the spirit of the Founders than Governor Sarah Palin. To have the support of Sarah, someone so dedicated to getting this nation back on the path to prosperity, is a tremendous honor,” said Benacquisto. “I am proud to have the recognition of Sarah and grateful that patriots in this congressional district they have a conservative they can trust.”
Benacquisto is one of four Republicans running in the congressional District 19 special election. The primary is April 22.
