The National Organization for Women has endorsed Nan Rich in the Florida governor’s race.
According to a news release from Rich, the endorsement was announced at a Rich campaign event in Broward County by national NOW President Terry O’Neill, who cited Rich’s support for child care and help for families; economic equality; and women’s health care, including access to reproductive healthcare.
Rich is the dark horse in a Democratic primary against former Gov. Charlie Crist. However, some Democrats, particularly including the party’s feminist and liberal factions, have been reluctant to accept Crist, a former Republican, as their candidate.
Rich has been running for governor for two years, and said many of her campaign events have been with NOW chapters and members who will be part of her “ground game” in the primary. Rich says she will overcome Crist’s better-known name and better funding in the primary with a grass-roots organization.
