Latvala and Negron vying for money, leadership roles

The News Service of Florida reports: A political committee tied to Sen. Jack Latvala, R-Clearwater, raised $177,849 during the first three weeks of June, bringing its overall total to $1,188,571, according to reports filed last week.

Latvala, the chairman of the Ethics and Elections Committee, is locked in a battle with Appropriations Chairman Joe Negron, R-Stuart, to become Senate president in 2016.

The Latvala committee, known as the “Florida Leadership Committee,” had spent a total of $230,661 as of June 20, the reports show.

A Negron committee, known as the “Treasure Coast Alliance,” reported an overall contribution total of $1,386,000, though it did not report raising any money during the first three weeks of June. The Negron committee had spent a total of $224,023.

Candidates and political committees were required last week to report campaign-finance information for the period covering June 1 to June 20.
