Brandes takes 4-to-1 fundraising lead over challenger

Incumbent state Sen. Jeff Brandes now has a 4-to-1 fundraising advantage over his Democratic challenger, according to May campaign finance reports available Tuesday.

Brandes, R-St. Peterburg, posted $7,321 for May, bringing his running total to $416,786.

May reports were due at the state Division of Elections today (June 10).

That same month he spent $17,924, for a total of $207,364 in campaign expenditures.

Democrat Judithanne McLauchlan, a political science professor at University of South Florida St. Petersburg, is taking on Brandes in his cross-bay district that takes in parts of St. Petersburg and Tampa.

For May, she brought in $22,913, bringing her total to $105,315. She spent $5,567, for $29,539 in expenditures in all.

In-kind contributions for the month of May were $34,327 for Brandes and $8,417 for McLauchlan.
