Bay area beaches get a cleaning
SOUTH TAMPA - Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful helped tidy the beach along the Courtney Campbell Causeway and many other sites as part of the Great American Cleanup on April 27. People of all ages checked in at more than 84 locations throughout Hillsborough County to volunteer during the national event. Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful, the local Keep America Beautiful affiliate, recruited volunteers to participate in beautification efforts that included planting projects, recycling activities and litter removal. Volunteers collected about 65,000 pounds of trash and planted 250 flowers and 940 trees. They also cleaned up more than 25 illegal dump sites and removed nearly 100 discarded tires.
