Letters to the editor: The Bergdahl exchange

The Bergdahl exchange

I find the Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl exchange quite troubling on many levels. This type of activity is specifically prohibited by law — one President Obama signed — which requires notice be given to Congress 30 days prior to this type of action being taken. Second, Bergdahl walked off his post of his own free will, making him a deserter, and as a result was indirectly responsible for the deaths of six American soldiers who were trying to find him. This is the type of man for whom the U.S. gave up five hardened Muslim extremist prisoners.

Now that the Taliban see that they can manipulate Obama into acceding to their demands, they will be more emboldened to take other terrorist actions knowing this administration will not take any real action against them. This trade will be used to show that Obama “supports our troops” at a time when he has neglected to say anything significant or to do anything of significance regarding the VA scandal. May God save us from the total ineptness this administration has continually shown.
