Letter of the Day
'The system is wrong'
I am sick at heart upon hearing of the death of Horsley Shorter Jr., the manager of a Family Dollar Store in Tampa. The accused killer, Demetrius Parks, has an extensive criminal record. According to your newspaper, he is only 23 and has a record of 37 felonies and 25 misdemeanor charges! He was released from prison on March 31 and had been arrested four times since then. One of the charges was being a felon in possession of a firearm. Why had he been allowed to walk free? Why wasn't he at least on probation? This man is a career criminal. He should never be allowed to walk free again. The system is wrong. It should not be the "criminal justice" system. They have broken laws and should be punished. My heartfelt sympathy to Mr. Shorter's family. I hope they get justice, but at what cost? Carol Willey Lake Placid
