Letter of the Day
One donor 50 lives
This year more than 25,000 lives will be saved thanks to an organ transplant, and hundreds of thousands more will be improved through tissue donation. However, with every life saved, another is added to the waiting list, to the tune of nearly 140 people a day, each hoping to beat the odds and receive the lifesaving organ transplant they need. Right now, more than 117,000 people in the United States await an organ transplant and of those, about 4,800 are our friends and neighbors in Florida. April is Donate Life Month, and I encourage those who have not yet done so to sign up on Florida’s donor registry online by visiting www.DonateLifeFlorida.org, or when getting or renewing their driver’s license. One organ donor can save the lives of eight people and impact nearly 50 more through tissue donation.
