Letter of the day: Gov. Scott deserves credit

It was very refreshing to read your March 5 editorial “Scott’s political narrative” in which you praised Gov. Rick Scott’s accomplishments. One very important accomplishment was dropping our unemployment rate from 11 percent to 6.3 percent. And as a previous small business owner, I can appreciate the cutting of regulations on small businesses, which certainly helped the Florida economy.

Scott’s fight to keep college tuition rates low will help our Florida students; however, the Florida legislature is trying to pass bills giving illegal aliens in-state tuition rates which will have to be subsidized by the Florida taxpayers or tuition rates will have to increase to cover this drop in tuition revenue. Rep. Will Weatherford and his supporters in the Florida House have turned their backs on the voters who elected them by introducing the bill giving in-state tuition to undocumented students. Our Senate President, Don Gaetz, is opposed, and I hope this bill does not see the light of day.

Scott should be praised for his accomplishments. His slogan of “Let’s keep working” is an excellent choice for his next election.
