I appreciate the publication of Ken Schatz’s commentary regarding the issue of partnering with other nations to provide and improve education for so many of the world’s illiterate (“Why the Global Partnership for Education deserves strong support,” Other Views, May 8).
As the world watches the terror and plight of those seeking an education, we can no longer claim ignorance, nor should we succumb to helplessness.
The Global Partnership for Education (GPE) and the Education for All Act provide concrete solutions. These youths make great sacrifices and risk their lives to receive an education, a liberty many people take for granted.
Support for the GPE and the Education for All Act should not be a partisan issue. These youth know that it is only through the acquisition of knowledge and skill that they can escape conditions of extreme poverty and nourish a future for their villages and country.
Can we demonstrate the same courage and ask for legislative support of these issues?
