Since we can no longer get the truth from the U.S. government or most major media outlets about inflation and unemployment, it was refreshing to see Richard Mullins’ article addressing how food costs have increased during the past four years (“Rising food costs take bite out of budgets,” front page, Sept. 22). His article delivered the facts about how increasing fuel and energy costs have forced the increased price of many food items.
Every U.S. citizen knows, from personal experience, that the cost of living has risen dramatically the past four years. However, the U.S. government continues to tell the American people that there is negligible inflation. To make the government’s story even worse, most national media sources repeat the low-inflation story instead of investigating and publishing the facts.
Thank goodness The Tampa Tribune has revealed the truth about the real food inflation numbers. Now it’s time they reveal the truth about unemployment and under-employment.
The U.S. government has misrepresented the truth about so many things for too many years. It’s time for the national media to be the watch dog it once was and always should be.
