Letter of the Day
An invitation to 'Bachelors & Belles'
I'm a representative for an organization that has existed in the Tampa area for more than 40 years called Bachelors & Belles. Through the years, they have placed small ads in your newspaper regarding their Friday dances and some special events. This organization, for the past 40 years, has rented the dance hall at the Zenda Grotto, located near Hillsborough Community College, across from the stadium. Within the past few years they have lost many of their members due to moves or death. Their main appeal is to the single senior, and they provide opportunities to socialize - on the dance floor, in a local restaurant, at a private home, or at a gaming facility, etc. At their Friday dances, they celebrate everyone's birthday during a particular month. Most single seniors in their 60s and up are not your typical "bar hoppers." However, they still have a life to live. Most of them withdraw from social activity (like dancing) and enter a very lonely world - a world that is totally unnecessary. As there are thousands of single seniors in the Tampa area, I feel that because of a lack of information about this organization, on the whole many just sit at home and sort of watch the world go by.Robert W.
