Letter of the Day
A message for Rubio
Let’s say a neighbor wants to sell one of his guns to another neighbor. Should a background check be required for that sale? What if the neighbor were Adam Lanza or James Holmes? A Pew survey conducted in February shows that 83 percent of Americans favor background checks for
all gun sales, while a Quinnipiac University telephone poll in February showed that 92 percent of Americans favor universal background checks for gun sales, including 91 percent of households that owned guns.
However, Sen. Marco Rubio has decided that 83 percent to 92 percent of Americans are wrong. He will oppose and has threatened to filibuster any bills in favor of universal background checks that are brought before Congress.
Tell Rubio that his job is to listen to the people of the United States, not lobbyists and big-money donors. Tell the senator to change his stance and support universal background checks for all gun sales. Let him know that his constituents support universal background checks and that as our senator it is his duty to support them as well.
