LifeCare to host fundraiser walkathons for second year
RUSKIN - A walkathon for LifeCare of Brandon to expand medical services to expectant mothers hopes for greater success its second time around in the South Shore area. “Last year was our first Walk for Life in South Shore,” said executive director Karen Brooks. “We had 140 people come to celebrate life and walk to raise funds for LifeCare at E.G. Simmons Park. “This year our goal is 300 walkers for SouthShore and 500 for Brandon, and to raise $50,000,” she continued. “Funds raised will help purchase an ultrasound machine for SouthShore and new office space in the Ruskin area.” The South Shore walk is Saturday at E.G. Simmons Park, 2401 19 Ave. N.W., Ruskin. Park admission is $2. The Brandon walk is May 18 at 120 N. Knights Ave.Registration for both events starts at 8:30 a.m. with the walk/rally at 9:30. Pre-walk activities for both include face painting, bounce house, balloons, live music and breakfast items. LifeCare of Brandon offers free services and support to teens, women and couples facing the challenge of an unplanned pregnancy. The nonprofit organization currently has two offices, one at 301 First St. N.E., Ruskin, and its original office at 125 N. Moon Ave., Brandon.
