Tampa was a little late to the party in creating a USO center for service members at its main airport, but the 1,100-square-foot center has been unflaggingly popular in the year since it opened.
More than 300 volunteers have provided food and a place to relax to more than 13,000 military personnel in that year.
The center was created after USO Tampa Bay led an effort that raised nearly $500,000 in cash and in-kind donations.
Friday’s anniversary celebration included appetizers from many of Tampa International Airport’s restaurants.
