Q: I wasn’t able to attend your water education event at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa a couple of months ago. When are you doing to do this again?
Answer: We are holding another event from 9 a.m. to noon June 28 at the UF/IFAS Extension Hillsborough County, 5339 County Road 579, Seffner.
There will be five timely topics to choose from. All presentations will be available on our website after the event and will be on flash drives distributed one per household.
The presentation topics include: “Water-Wise Plants”; “Succulents and Cacti”; “9 Steps to Florida-Friendly Landscaping”; “Micro Irrigation Workshop” and “Recycle Your Yard.”
The event is free, as is the parking. You will be able to speak with UF/IFAS Extension professionals about your Florida-Friendly Landscape and participate in docent tours of the Bette S. Walker Discovery Garden and our perennial garden.
There is easy online registration at http://dollarsmartandwaterwise.eventbrite.com. By attending “Florida-Friendly Landscaping 101: Dollar-Smart and Water-Wise,” you will learn simple and affordable ways to practice Florida-Friendly Landscaping principles. You will receive several handouts, and there will be drawings at the wrap-up session for many water conservation-related prizes.
We hope you will be able to join us and learn more about plant selection and placement, micro irrigation, how to recycle your yard and much more.

In my April 13 Q&A titled “Arena insecticide not available in Florida” (about chinch bugs), I incorrectly stated that imidicloprid was a pyrethroid. It is a neonicotinoid. Aloft contains both bifenthrin (pyrethroid) and clothianidin (neonicotinoid). Thanks to the reader who brought this to my attention.
