Q: My neighbor waters all the time, sometimes during the day and sometimes at night. I’ve tried to talk with him about this, but you can imagine how well that was received. What can I do at this point?
Answer: It is upsetting when people are overusing a resource that all of us “share.”
The first step is to review the water restrictions where you live. There are specific times of day and days per week when people are allowed to water, whether the water comes from an in-ground irrigation system or a well. Microirrigation restrictions are significantly less, but that type of irrigation is used on landscape beds, not turfgrass. You can report the address of the violations to the city of Tampa or unincorporated Hillsborough County anonymously by telephone. Their websites are listed below. These water providers will not issue a ticket based on a phone call, but they may check out the address to see for themselves if the violation continues. You should probably let the water authorities handle this going forward. Neighborhood relations can be challenging. Good luck!
