PLANT CITY A Jacksonville company has been awarded a $411,000 contract to repaint three water towers, including one painted to resemble a strawberry.
Worth Contracting will replace the faded colors at the strawberry tower, a landmark visible from Interstate 4. The 500,000-gallon tower at Wilder Road and Cherry Street received the color scheme years ago as a tribute to the city’s role as the nation’s winter strawberry capital.
The company will also repaint a tower off Alexander Street that includes the words “Plant City High School” and the Raiders’ logo.
The city’s third tower is off National Guard Drive and, perhaps due to its less prominent location, does not have a theme – but it will get a fresh coat of pale blue paint, along with work on the inside of the tank.
