A Lakeland man was killed Sunday after his bicycle was struck by a car, according to authorities.
Byers Levy, 59, of Lakeland was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.
About 4:51 p.m., a Toyota Camry was traveling north on Lake Hollingsworth Drive when the driver, Ronald Akins, 74, of Lakeland, lost control, Lakeland police said.
The Camry left the roadway and went on the eastern portion of the shoulder and into Levy’s path. Levy attempted to veer the bike onto the road to avoid the car, but was struck and thrown from the bike, police said.
Akins was treated for minor cuts, police said.
This accident remains under investigation.
