Highland Homes earns national honors

Highland Homes is in the news again, earning yet another accolade: a spot in the homebuilding industry's ranking for this country's top builders. Builder Magazine ranked Highland Homes the 84th largest homebuilder nationwide for 2008, up from 121st in 2007. "This local, independent builder continues to find success," said Kathie McDaniel, vice president of sales and marketing for Highland Homes. "Centrally located in Lakeland, this father-and-son business is the only independent builder in Central Florida in the Builder 100 list. It's not often you see a small, independent builder make such great strides, especially with the ups and downs of the building industry." Those strides include continued growth in sales, with "Highland Homes averaging over 50 sales per month," McDaniel said.
Helping make those numbers real are two communities in the Tampa Bay market: Ayersworth Glen in Riverview and The Greens of Hidden Creek in Zephyrhills. "These two communities are the same distance from downtown, one is south, the other north. They appeal to very different market segments so whatever lifestyle a buyer has in mind, they will find it in one of these communities," McDaniel said. Ayersworth Glen is in Riverview in south Hillsborough County. This community focuses on lifestyle, offering residents country-club amenities including one of the largest pools in the area, a clubhouse with meeting room, recreation room and fitness facility, McDaniel said. In addition, Ayersworth Glen features biking trails, a sports court, sports field and a playground area. Homes here start at $109,900. "Buyers looking for affordable living with a country-club lifestyle will find this to be the perfect spot," McDaniel said."The community is just minutes away from a large shopping area and major highways for those who need to be near everything. Highland Homes also offers great financing options, including 100 percent financing for buyers who qualify." The Greens of Hidden Creek is another Highland Homes community. Nestled in the country setting of Zephyrhills, the Greens is surrounded by pastures and conservation areas with nearby golf course neighborhoods. "This is a small community with a wide variety of homes to choose from and great pricing," McDaniel said. Although the community is in a rural setting, it also isjust off Morris Bridge Road leading to Fletcher Avenue, so within minutes residents are in Tampa, she said, adding that the University of Tampa and downtown Tampa are just minutes from The Greens by taking a short commute on Interstate 75 into the downtown area. "The setting is quiet and home buyers love that there are no CDD (Community Development District) fees," McDaniel said. Another attractive feature for Highland Homes built in The Greens is their stem wall foundation. "The slab is elevated and built up, which gives the community more character," she said. "The community has rolling topography, so the homes all look a bit different, rather than a duplication of the houses on either side." The Greens also has a Green Certified model home, called the Treymore, which features many energy related options for buyers to consider when building their home. The Treymore model offers four bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, a two-car garage, covered lanai off the family room, and a large open kitchen with nook overlooking the pond. The master suite is on the first floor with a luxury bathroom featuring a garden tub, separate shower, double vanity and large walk in closet. "This home has been a hit as a model and is now for sale in the community and will be featured in the Parade of Homes this weekend," McDaniel said. To get to Ayersworth Glen, take Interstate 75 South to Big Bend Road (exit 246). Drive east about one mile to State Road 301. Turn south (right) and drive about three miles. Turn left into Highland Chase at Ayersworth. The community is on the right. To visit the Greens at Hidden Creek from Tampa, drive north in Interstate 75 to Fletcher Avenue (exit 266). Turn east and drive on Morris Bridge Road for 16 miles. The entrance for Greens at Hidden Creek is on the left, just past Lake Bernadette. For information about Ayersworth, call (813) 938-4810.
