GL Homes celebrates Memorial Day, second rec center at Valencia Lakes
With its large and active population of veterans, Valencia Lakes always celebrates Memorial Day with honor, but tomorrow’s observance will be even more special, according to Marisa Lufkin, project manager and vice president of GL Homes. The GL Homes active adult community will celebrate the grand opening of its secondary recreation center as well, which will add to Valencia Lakes considerable amenities. “The timing is perfect, since one of the features of the secondary recreation center is the Veterans Circle of Honor, which includes an American flag as well as a flag from each of the four branches of our military service,” Lufkin explains. “It will be the focal point of our Military Veterans Club events, which pay tribute to the men and women who fought for our country. The veterans club is a very large group within Valencia Lakes and they are very active in philanthropy, in supporting our troops and in veterans’ affairs.” GL Homes will dedicate the Veterans Circle of Honor as part of the Memorial Day grand opening of the secondary recreation center, which includes a dog park, an RV and boat storage area, a community garden and a fully-equipped softball field.“The secondary recreation center is an extension of the current recreational amenities that are already open at Valencia Lakes,” Lufkin adds. “We have an incredibly active community and we view the new amenities that will be opening — from the softball field, basketball court and dog park to the community gardens and Veterans Circle of Honor — as additional opportunities for our residents to get out and about and enjoy an active lifestyle in their retirement years.” The active residents of Valencia Lakes have a full day of Memorial Day celebrations planned during the grand opening of the secondary recreation center. Lufkin says it is a great time for interested new home buyers to visit Valencia Lakes and see the two professionally furnished model rows, which feature single-family homes and villa floor plans, as well as the new parcel of home sites recently made available. At the same time, visitors will see firsthand just how active an active adult community can be. “Our residents are very active, whether pursuing lifelong interests or trying new experiences they didn’t have the time for during their working years,” Lufkin explains. “Our full-time activity director keeps the daily schedule full, while more than 100 clubs allow residents to participate in a variety of activities with like-minded folks. There is so much to do that many residents have taken to calling it ‘Club Valencia.’ “ While celebrating Memorial Day and the grand opening of the secondary recreation center, residents of Valencia Lakes will be engaged in a pickleball and tennis tournament, shuffleboard, bocce ball, table tennis, volleyball, water volleyball, a barbecue and a pool party with a live DJ. “Our Valencia Lakes softball team will play its first exhibition game on our new softball field, which includes bleachers, dugouts and concession stands. Our new dog park is a great place for residents’ dogs to play off leash, with shade structures, an agility course and an area for water. The RV and boat storage facility, which opened May 1, has spaces large enough for a 40-foot boat or RV, with plenty of spots available for residents to store their craft.” Members of the Valencia Lakes garden club are especially excited about the opening of the new community garden. “The garden club has been planning with us for well over a year to ensure that what we build for the community garden will be what they can make the most use of, such as the potting table and the composting equipment. They have big plans for the garden and are hoping that the yield in vegetables and herbs is enough to eventually open a green market within the community,” Lufkin adds. With new home prices starting in the $170,000s, Valencia Lakes is an affordable active adult community, yet Lufkin says it’s not the spacious homes, lush landscaping or plentiful amenities that most attracts home buyers. “Homeowners tell us that it is definitely the lifestyle that convinced them to buy a home in Valencia Lakes. They tell us that they have a bigger and better social life than they have ever had,” Lufkin says. To reach Valencia Lakes, take Interstate 75 to exit 240 (S.R. 674 East, Sun City Center). Travel east on S.R. 674 to U.S. 301 and turn north. Valencia Lakes' entrance is on the right.
