WTVT meteorologist Andy Johnson retiring after 33 years
Andy Johnson, meteorologist for WTVT, Channel 13, announced on his Facebook page Thursday that he is retiring from the station after 33 years. Johnson, who joined Tampa's Fox affiliate in 1979 and most recently served as the evening weekend meteorologist, said it is with "mixed emotions" that he is announcing his intention to step down. "I am fortunate to have been blessed with having worked with such professional colleagues and followed by such loyal viewers," Johnson said on Facebook. "Being a meteorologist for WTVT was a childhood dream of mine, which I was able to fulfill. Tampa is my home and always will be. So, if you see me around town, please say 'Hi'!" Johnson, who was assaulted in 2009 while attending a meteorological conference in Miami, is a Tampa native and Florida State University graduate.
