William Shatner is beaming into Tampa this weekend.
The actor, best known for portraying Capt. James T. Kirk on “Star Trek,” will appear at the Hilton Tampa Airport Westshore for The Away Mission, a science fiction convention running Friday through Sunday at the hotel.
Other actors scheduled for autographs and photo-ops with fans include Kevin Sorbo, former star of “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys.”
Leonard Nimoy, who played Spock in the original “Star Trek” series and films, is scheduled to make an appearance via Skype, while Saul Rubinek, John De Lancie and Suzie Plakson, all veterans of various “Star Trek” incarnations, will be there live.
The Away Mission promotes its events as smaller, more intimate alternatives to “big box conventions,” with an emphasis on fewer people and shorter lines.
Three-day weekend packages have already sold out, but a limited number of single-day general admission passes will be available at the door for $39. Ticket availability is posted at away-mission.com.
Autographs and photos with the celebrity guests will range from $25 for an autograph from Plakson, to $80 for a photo with Shatner
The event will also feature guest appearances by a variety of sci-fi authors and artists, plus vendors, panel discussions, games and other activities.
