When it comes to welcoming strangers into their homes, the people of Tampa are the best in the United States, according to digital marketplace Airbnb. The website, which helps people rent out their homes and spare bedrooms, released a list of "America's 10 Most Hospitable Cities," with Tampa taking the No. 1 spot. "What are the most hospitable cities in America? With more than 4 million guests having stayed on Airbnb, and with hundreds of thousands of reviews, we're in a unique position to find out," said the post on Airbnb's blog. The site filtered through reviews and looked for cities with the highest percentages of five-star listings, and used that to develop what they've dubbed the "Airbnb Hospitality Index," according to the blog post.
A separate Airbnb post gave a detailed explanation of the methodology used to create the index, which included cleanliness and communication, among other factors. Southern hospitality rang through the list, with Raleigh, N.C., and Memphis and Nashville, Tenn., also making the top 10. The list also featured a top-rated rental from each city. In Tampa, the top pick was "The Green Room," a private bedroom in a South Tampa house where English, French, German, Italian and Dutch are spoken. The room rents for $59 per night and, according to one user's review, "Andre" and "Michelle" are "amazing hosts." Here's the full list: 1. Tampa 2. Mendocino, Calif. 3. Eugene, Ore. 4. Bend, Ore. 5. Raleigh, N.C. 6. Memphis, Tenn. 7. Madison, Wis. 8. Nashville, Tenn. 9. Tucson, Ariz. 10. Lake Tahoe, Calif.
