Super Boat races bring parade, seafood fest and fireworks to Clearwater

Some of the fastest boats on earth return to the waters off Clearwater Beach this weekend for the Super Boat National Championships.

The racing action, with boats hitting speeds of up to 180 miles-per-hour, takes place Sunday, but the surrounding celebrations, including live music, a boat parade and a seafood festival start tonight and go all weekend long.

Here's a look at what's happening:



Baystar Race Village, noon to 5:30 p.m. - Walk the dry pits to get an up-close look at the boats and take photos. Drivers and crews will be on hand to meet fans and sign autographs. Vendors will be selling food and other items. Admission is free. Coachman Park, 301 Drew Street, Clearwater

Blast Friday, 5:30 to 10 p.m. - This month, the free monthly event in downtown Clearwater will feature a Super Boat parade down Cleveland Street along with opportunities to meet the drivers. John Cafferty of Beaver Brown Band will perform in concert, along with Stormbringer. There's also a classic car show and prize drawings. 400 Cleveland St., Clearwater



Seafood Festival and Baystar Race Village, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. - An all-day seafood festival featuring food by Baystar restaurants (Salt Rock Grill, Island Way Grill, Rumba Island Bar & Grill, Marlin Darlin Key West Grill and Salt Rock Tavern). Walk the pits to get an up-close look at the boats and meet drivers. Admission is free. Coachman Park, 301 Drew St., Clearwater

Star Spectacular, 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. - A full lineup of bands (Studio 10 Band, The Alter Eagles, The Killing Floor) perform live. Super Boats will be on display and there will be a motorcycle show by Full Throttle magazine. Free admission. 400 Cleveland St., Clearwater

Fireworks display, sunset - The weekly Sunset at Pier 60 event gets a special fireworks display in celebration of the Super Boat championships. Bring blankets and lawn chairs to watch a free screening of “Rudy” afterward on the pier. 10 Pier 60 Drive, Clearwater

Shephard's VIP Party, 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. - The Clearwater Chamber of Commerce hosts the official Super Boat Championships pre-party featuring a performance by Pitbull Toddler and Top-40 cover bands. Free admission. 619 S Gulfview Blvd, Clearwater Beach



Baystar Race Village, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. - See boats and teams up close, get autographs and take photos in the dry pit areas. There will be food vendors and live music throughout. Free admission. Coachman Park, 301 Drew Street, Clearwater

Race viewing, noon to 4 p.m. - Tickets to view the boat races from Pier 60 will be sold for $5 or $20 on a first-come-first-serve basis, beginning at 10 a.m. There will also be deck parties at the Hyatt Regency and Hilton hotels starting at 11 a.m. as part of a $100 VIP package available from Clearwatersuperboat.com. Private boats can anchor along a designated spectator area along the racecourse. Spectators can also watch from the beach for free. The boats start racing at noon.

Miss Clearwater Super Boat Corona Girl Pageant, 4 p.m. - The official after-race beach party will feature a $500 prize for the first place “Corona girl,” plus music by DJ Ray and Soul Circus Cowboy. Free admission. 619 S. Gulfview Boulevard, Clearwater Beach
