Runners will aim to 'survive' Tampa Bay 5K zombie run
Looking to add a little extra motivation to your fitness routine? The organizers of the first Tampa Bay 5K Zombie Run might have found a way. On Dec. 22, runners, or as they'll be known at the run, "survivors," will try to evade a flesh-hungry pack of "zombies" while navigating a five-kilometer course through Dade City's Little Everglades Ranch. The course will feature wooded trails, murky swamps and a variety of obstacles, the foremost of which will be costumed zombies trying to strip flags from the runner's belts. Those who cross the finish line with at least one flag intact will have the right to brag that they survived the zombie apocalypse. For those who prefer to do the hunting, participants have the option of joining the zombie horde. Make-up services will be provided on site, and zombies will get a chance to run the course after completing their 90-minute shift of chasing wannabe survivors. The run wraps up with the post-race Apocalypse Party with live music, food and beer. Registration costs $60 to participate as a zombie, or $90 to run the course. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Shriners Hospital for Children. Full details and online registration for the event are at The5KZombieRun.com.
